OUR STORY

Off The Hanger is a curated fashion destination built around bold statement pieces and elevated essentials selected for impact, detail, and presence. Every collection is intentionally edited to move beyond trend and into identity, offering clothing that feels unmistakably individual and effortlessly elevated.
Founded 16 years ago in Newark, New Jersey, Off The Hanger began as an independent curated concept built from a clear vision: fashion should feel personal, expressive, and unforgettable. What started in an apartment evolved into a showroom, and later expanded into a physical storefront that operated for over a decade, becoming a destination for women seeking statement dressing with intention.
After the shift of the pandemic, the brand returned to its roots and reimagined itself as a more intimate Style Lounge experience. That transition brought the focus back to what has always been at the core: curation, connection, and the power of presence through style.
Today, Off The Hanger continues as a refined edit of elevated essentials and statement pieces designed for women who understand that fashion is not about fitting in, but about being remembered. Every piece is chosen with intention. Nothing is accidental. Everything is part of the edit.
MEET THE FOUNDER

An entrepreneur, fashion director, and cultural producer, Lynette Lashawn is the creative force behind the vision and curation of Off The Hanger. With a background in law and a Master of Arts, her approach to fashion is rooted in structure, intention, and the belief that style is a form of presence, identity, and power.
Her creative work spans television, film, and fashion culture, including appearances on HBO’s And Just Like That and involvement in the upcoming Devil Wears Prada 2. She has produced large-scale cultural fashion experiences such as Newark in Prada, created in collaboration with the City of Newark, Newark Alliance, and the Newark Office of TV and Film.
Her work extends into institutional and cultural programming, including producing fashion-centered events for the Newark Museum of Art’s Art After Dark series, fashion parades for Newark Arts, serving as Style Manager for Newark Fashion Forward, and founding Newark Fashion Night Out, shaping Newark’s contemporary fashion and cultural landscape.
Beyond production, her work is rooted in access and impact. She has styled domestic violence survivors through creative collaborations and created Fashion Industry Insider, a hands-on educational bootcamp designed to introduce aspiring creatives to the business and career pathways of fashion, with a focus on underserved communities and emerging talent.
Across every project, her philosophy remains consistent: fashion is not just clothing, but presence, entry point, and expression. Her work is dedicated to creating spaces where style becomes experience, and experience becomes empowerment.
